Online advent calendar helps celebrate patient care
1 December 2016
Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust has launched its official online Nursing and Midwifery advent calendar.
The calendar aims to celebrate the excellent work of our nurses and midwives who have put people at the heart of our care.
Each day there will be a photograph or video on social media of either a team or individual who has made a difference to patient care by putting the patient at the heart of everything they do.
The first team to feature on day 1 is the nursing team on one of our adult surgical wards', Ward 31. Together, using a Trust wide initiative, they developed a way of making patients feel more at ease, by ensuring that the information on our patient boards highlights ‘what matters most’ to each patient.
On the board, nurses write what the patient likes, any hobbies they may have, how they like their tea and what makes them feel comfortable.
Sister on the ward, Jane Tomlinson, said: “We wanted to develop something that would help us make an instant connection with a patient.
“Being in hospital can be a worrying time for some, but if you can walk into the room and start talking about their favourite hobby, a pet or family and friends, then it helps them feel more at ease and relaxed.
“We are really proud of the difference it has made, a great idea from our own staff which has helped us to make the care we provide even more personal.”
