Sherwood Forest Hospitals Charity and The Friends of Newark Hospital have launched a Dementia Care fundraising appeal to raise £105,000 to help make Newark Hospital’s Sconce Ward dementia friendly.

In order to raise funds for the Dementia Care appeal, a number of events have been held over the past month, as well as some very generous donations made.

Newark couple, Richard and Brenda Fincham (pictured) celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary by asking guests who attended their celebrations to make donations rather than giving gifts, resulting in an £100 donation to the appeal.

Friends of Newark Hospital Committee Member, Barbara Hatton, also held a plant stall at Newark Hospital and raised £31.50 and former Town Mayor, Councillor Dean Hyde, has also kindly donated £637 to the appeal from remaining funds in his charity appeal account.

A cake sale will also be held to raise funds for the appeal on Thursday 15 June from 9am to noon in the glass corridor at Newark Hospital.

Head of Corporate Affairs and Company Secretary, Shirley Higginbotham said: “We would like to thank everyone for their generous donations to the Dementia Care Appeal. Hopefully with the continued help and support of our fundraisers, volunteers, patients, families and the community we will soon be able to reach our target.”

If you would like to find out more about making a donation to the appeal, visit the Community Involvement Department at the main entrance of Newark Hospital or the hub at the main entrance of King's Mill Hospital. You can also call (01636) 685692 or email
