On 1 February 2007, the Trust was authorised to become Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
This means we are accountable to our staff, patients and stakeholders, who can apply to become members. We aim to ensure that our members have every opportunity to contribute to our ongoing development plans.
More than 25,000 staff, volunteers, patients and the public have chosen to become a member of Sherwood Forest Hospitals. Membership is your chance to be involved and take ownership.
How do I become a member?
Am I eligible to become a member?
To qualify for membership, staff must be on a permanent contract, or have a fixed term contract of at least 12 months. All staff who are contracted to work on the Trust's hospital sites that have at least 12 months service are also eligible to become members.
Membership for the bank and locum staff who have not worked for the Trust for three consecutive months will cease to be valid.
I am already a public member, do I need to cancel this?
Why does being a member involve?
As a staff member, you can decide exactly how involved you want to be, depending on the time you have available. For example you may simply want to receive regular communication from us, such as the weekly staff bulletin, the membership magazine 'Best', the Annual Report and Accounts and member surveys.
Or you may wish to play a more active role:
Standing for election as a Governor
Participating in surveys/questionnaires
Attending member events/open days
Being involved in health promotions/campaigns
Recruiting new members
Who are the staff governors and what do they do?
The Trust has a Council of Governors who work alongside the Board of Directors. There are currently five staff governors representing King's Mill Hospital and two governors representing Newark Hospital - who sit on the Council of Governors.
The Governors act as your voice. If you wish to raise an issue or have any ideas or suggestions, please contact your Governor.
