Patient Stories from Newark Hospital

Newark Hospital Patient Stories

Janet's Story
Fernwood Community Unit, Newark Hospital

J Arrowsmith

Eighty-three-year-old Janet Arrowsmith fell while at home and was taken by ambulance to King’s Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Paramedics were concerned that the former nurse from Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire, could have suffered a broken hip and knee but, thankfully, an X-ray revealed no broken bones.

“I was out of the ambulance, into the Emergency Department and straight through to X-ray and on to a ward at King’s Mill,” she said.

“A few days later, I was transferred to Newark Hospital’s Sconce Ward and then on to Fernwood where I began physiotherapy. They have been brilliant, really helping me to get me up and about and ready to go home.

“In fact, all the staff have been brilliant – at all levels, but what has impressed me most has been the cleanliness and the food, which has been excellent.”
