Future consultants prepare for exams with help from Sherwood Forest Hospitals patients
March 31, 2017
Prospective consultants from across the country gathered at King's Mill Hospital to experience what their exam would involve.
Shashi Kumar, Speciality Doctor, is the brainchild behind the mock exams, as he felt the real exam for future consultants was a shock. Dr Kumar said: "When senior registrars take their examination assessment, it's a big shock as you are not fully aware what will happen or what you will be assessed on.
"This is the first time we have done mock exams at King's Mill and this is a great opportunity for registrars who are taking exams to gain feedback from fully trained and qualified consultants."
15 patients volunteered to be involved with the exams as they felt they had a duty to give something back to the Trust after receiving outstanding care. One patient said: "I have had nothing but the best of care at King's Mill Hospital and I didn't hesitate when asked to be part of the exams for consultants. These Doctors are the future and I feel privileged to help them on their way to helping more people.
Mr Amit Bidwai, Consultant at Sherwood Forest Hospitals said: "We want to throw our senior registrars in at the deep end so that they know what to expect when the real thing comes around. We have had candidates from as far as Ireland attend these mock exams as there isn't anything like this near them. We have created the same atmosphere and tension as the consultant exams, so this should give them the experience they need to ace the test."
