Sherwood Forest Hospitals Chair to step down from equivalent role with University Hospitals of North Midlands

June 5, 2017

Chair of Sherwood Forest Hospitals (SFH) NHS Foundation Trust, John MacDonald, is to step down from the equivalent role he has held for the past six years at University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM).

John has been undertaking both roles on a two-days-a-week basis since his appointment as Chair of SFH in March this year.

He will step down as UHNM Chair on August 3, 2017.

Speaking after announcing his decision to the UHNM board, he said: “SFH is at a critical phase having recently emerged from special measures and received a positive CQC inspection report.

“A new vision and strategic priorities are being developed and, with the arrival of new Chief Executive Richard Mitchell, a fully substantive executive team will be in place from July.

“Having made great strides forward as a trust, so far, I feel the time is right to fully focus on helping SFH in its ambition to become truly outstanding. Since March I have spoken to many members of staff across SFH I am really looking forward to helping them with the exciting challenges that lie ahead.”

John is a former NHS Chief Executive, has worked for three major teaching hospitals and has held previous NHS roles in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

Before joining the NHS, John worked with Touche Ross Management Consultants in the UK and has ten years’ experience working as an economist with international aid agencies in Africa and the Middle East.
