King’s Mill Hospital colleagues have once again thanked local people after last night’s shift in the Emergency Department (ED) was trouble-free, with no abusive behaviour towards colleagues.
This is the second time that England has played and there have been no instances of abuse or violence recorded in the Emergency Department.
Abusive behaviour in the ED after previous England games had led to some staff dreading match shifts, so Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust, which runs King’s Mill, sent out a plea asking local people to treat their staff with respect.
Chief Operating Officer for Sherwood Forest Hospitals, Simon Barton said: “Our reminder to patients to treat us with respect seems to have really helped, as we saw a much calmer ED last night, which was really pleasing to see.
“We knew it was going to be an exciting and tense night for England fans last night, and it was expected that the ED may be busy, so we planned accordingly, but thankfully everyone who attended was respectful and kind towards our colleagues.
“We would also like to thank our security colleagues and Nottinghamshire Police who have supported us during these busy times.
“We will always be here for those who need us, but it is disheartening for our colleagues when verbal and physical abuse happens from a minority of patients, so it was encouraging to see this reduction in abusive behaviour and we would like to thank our community for their cooperation. We know it wasn’t the football result that anyone wanted, and we were as disappointed as anyone, but no yellow cards were issued in our ED and that was very pleasing for us to see, we hope this continues.”
