Back Pain Unit - Introductory Session
This is an introduction to our services and programme and is usually delivered in a group setting.
Patients are able to meet team members and learn more about the back pain unit’s approach to pain management.
Top tips for the session
These sessions are about two hours long so please be prepared for this. However, you will not be expected to sit for this length of time, there is also a break for a drink of tea/coffee. An information pack is given to you on the day.

Q. Is this the start of a programme?
A. No, although you may pick up some useful ideas. It is mainly to provide you with the information you need so that you can decide whether a programme is right for you.
Q. Is there any medical treatment offered on an introduction session?
A. No, information only.
Q. How many people will be there?
A. Between 14 – 26.
Q. What if I don’t want to speak out in front of a group?
A. That’s fine, you only have to speak if you want to.
Q. Will I have to sit for a long time?
A. You will be able to stand and move about as you wish.
Q. Will I be able to bring someone with me?
A. Yes, but if we are short of space they may be asked to wait in the waiting area.
Q. Will I have a consultation with a doctor at this session?
A. No, not at this stage.
Q. Why do I need to attend this session if I already know I want to attend a programme?
A. Programmes are complicated and the approach needs explaining. It may not be what you think.
Q. Will I be able to attend a programme with the same people I meet on the introduction session?
A. That is unlikely due to the numbers of people we see.
