Hair Loss
Hair loss can be a worrying side effect of some cancer treatments. Many people are anxious that losing their hair will be a visual reminder of their cancer diagnosis.
Patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment which will cause hair loss at King's Mill Hospital can obtain a wig prescription from the Chemotherapy Department to help towards the cost of a wig or other headwear from any NHS Wig Provider.

Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have also worked with the wig providers to introduce a Hair Loss Workshop, providing practical support and advice around hair loss due to cancer treatment. The workshops cover:
- How to care for your scalp
- Wig and headwear options
- How to care for a wig
- What to expect when hair grows back, and how to care for new hair growth
Workshops run throughout the year, please call the Information Centre to book your place.
Donating your Wig
Many patients wish to donate their wigs once they no longer need them. There are various charities that disinfect and trim the wigs before offering them to patients who cannot afford to purchase a brand new wig. Two wig banks we have donated wigs to in the past are Simply Wigs, and the Wig Bank. Donations can be sent to:
