Antenatal Suite & Pregnancy Assessment Unit

From Tuesday 6 April, in order to support pregnant women using maternity services during the pandemic at Sherwood Forest Hospitals, the Trust is offering all women and their support person the option to have a Covid-19 test before their 12 and 20 weeks scan appointments at King’s Mill Hospital.

The tests being offered are rapid ‘lateral flow’ tests. In order to allow time for the tests to be carried out women and their support person are being asked to come to hospital 50 minutes before their scan appointment. The test is a simple nasal swab, it isn’t painful and it doesn’t take long.

More information about the tests and FAQs can be found here.

From Monday 21 December 2020 pregnant women will be able to be accompanied by their birth partner for all appointments in the Early Pregnancy Unit and in the Antenatal Clinic. If you have an appointment before then, please do not bring your birth partner unless you are attending for a scan in our Early Pregnancy Unit or a dating or 20 week scan. This is to keep you, our colleagues and other patients safe whilst we make changes to allow us to support the new policy.

Please do not attend if you or your birth partner have any symptoms of Covid-19 including a new continuous cough, loss of taste or smell, a high temperature, a sore throat, any sickness or diarrhoea within the last 48 hours, new muscle aches or general feeling of weakness, a new feeling of tiredness, a headache or any cold symptoms (sneezing/blocked or runny nose), any new breathlessness, any new loss of appetite or feeling sick. Please contact the department to discuss if you have had any of these symptoms.

Thank you for your patience.

The Antenatal Suite is accessible via the main entrance and can be found on the ground floor. Here you will be greeted by a receptionist who will register your arrival and direct you to the booking in screen, once booked in the screen will direct you to the appropriate waiting area.

You may be attending for a clinic appointment with your obstetrician, an appointment in the pregnancy assessment unit or the scanning department for an ultrasound scan.

The Pregnancy Assessment Unit is located within the antenatal suite. You may be referred here by your community midwife or obstetrician for investigations such as blood tests, more extensive monitoring of your baby or to discuss specific screening tests and results.

The opening hours are 9.00 am to 6.00 pm, Monday to Friday by appointment only.
