Community Pain Management Service
Community Pain Pathway and Chronic Fatigue (CFS/ME) Services provide a multi-professional service for NHS patients in community settings across Nottinghamshire.
The team supports patients with back pain and other persistent pain conditions as well as patients with chronic fatigue syndrome and long COVID related fatigue by providing access to appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
It offers holistic patient-centred care within a biopsychosocial framework, with individualised assessment and treatment in one-to-one and group settings. The team includes pain consultants, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, a CBT therapist, clinical psychologist, pharmacists, and health and wellbeing practitioners, with the support of an administration team.
The team work together to support people with long term pain conditions to improve their quality of life through knowledge, understanding and management strategies. Treatments are tailored to the individual and include education and advice regarding how to live well with pain, including self-management group programmes for Pain, ME/CFS, and long COVID related fatigue management.
The team also provide advice regarding pain medication, this could be trials of alternative medication, but could also help with weaning down from stronger medications.
PICS Pain and CFS/ME pathway work in partnership with patients, carers, and other services including mental health, social prescribing, NUH Spinal Service, local musculoskeletal teams, and other appropriate health and community providers.
