Blood Transfusion

The Blood Transfusion Department is responsible for carrying out routine blood grouping, antibody identification and providing safe and compatible blood components or blood products to a diverse group of patients for use in clinical emergencies and routine procedures.

The department currently analyses approximately 30,000 Group and Save samples per year and issue approximately 7,500 units of red cells, of which 4,500 units are transfused to our patients.

The Blood Transfusion Department operates a 24-hour service provision, including public holidays, and offers clinical advice and assistance 24-hours a day.
