Clinical Chemistry

Clinical Chemistry (also known as Clinical Biochemistry or Chemical Pathology) is the study of chemical and biochemical changes in the body in relation to disease, mostly through the analysis of body fluids such as blood or urine.

The majority of Clinical Chemistry tests performed at Sherwood Forest Hospitals are performed on automated biochemistry analysers which enable the dedicated Biomedical Scientists working within the department to provide valuable information to clinicians, usually on the day the sample is taken.

Other, more specialist investigations are also performed on a daily basis by our experienced staff. Very specialist or complex testing is sometimes sent to a reference laboratory for further investigation.

Clinical Biochemistry is a UKAS accredited medical laboratory No. 8676.
