Point of Care Testing

Point of Care Testing (PoCT) refers to any analytical test performed for or by a patient outside the conventional laboratory setting. The Point of Care Testing Team provides support for PoCT devices used within the Trust, covering King’s Mill Hospital, Newark Hospital, Mansfield Community Hospital, Ashfield Health and Wellbeing Centre, and Barlborough Treatment Centre. PoCT is used in a variety of settings from emergency medicine to community clinics to help speed up the diagnostic process, often streamlining treatment and putting patients on the correct treatment pathway.

The team provides help and advice on the implementation, training, quality assurance, troubleshooting and monitoring of Point of Care testing systems, including glucose, ketone, INR, Creatinine, HCG, urinalysis, full blood count analysis, stat biochemistry analysis, bilirubin, blood gases and haemoglobin analysis.

Point of Care Testing equipment should only be used by trained individuals. Please contact the team if you require training.
