Urgent and Emergency Care

The Emergency Care department at King's Mill Hospital is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for the treatment of serious and potentially life-threatening conditions.

We work closely with partners at East Midlands Ambulance Service and others to provide a variety of appropriate and timely services for patients who require urgent and emergency care.

Our emergency department is very busy

If you need urgent medical help for something that isn't an emergency, our emergency department and urgent treatment centre isn't your only option.

  • Call 111
  • Visit an urgent treatment centre or minor injury unit
  • Speak to your local pharmacy

If you’re unsure which service is right for you please contact 111.

You should only call 999 or visit an emergency department in a real emergency

Only come to our emergency care department or urgent treatment centre if it's for serious, life-threatening conditions that need immediate medical attention, including:

  • Persistent severe chest pain or breathing difficulty
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Acute confused state
  • Suspected broken bones
  • Severe blood loss
  • Serious burns
  • Suspected stroke
  • Swallowing something harmful or poisonous, or a drug overdose

The Urgent Treatment Centre continues to be an important service offered within the Newark Hospital site.
