Insight placements
During your placement, please take the opportunity to arrange insight visits.
Booking a placement
Interest in booking an insight visit should be discussed with your supervisor or assessor and be relevant to the area you are on placement.
Evidence
Evidence such as a witness statement or observed learning record should be produced during your visit and what you have written should be discussed, checked, and signed by the person you have been working with or observing. This can then be used as evidence of achieving proficiencies.
Placement options
This list is not exhaustive and is intended to guide you only.
- Length of visit: Flexible timing, as much or as little time as you would like to spend with the team.
- Offers: A look into what chaplaincy is it is and how it works. Depending upon the day depends on the activities available, options include May go out to visit patients or take part in what is happening in the faith centre.

- Length of visit: One-day visit recommended.
- Offers: An insight into Dialysis unit, Gain and understanding about the process of dialysis, AV fistula.

- Length of visit: One-day visit recommended. They do also offer a placement for special interest in DALT.
- Offers: Overview of substance use, management of substance use. Ward based assessment process and follow up.

- Length of visit: Half day visit, around 5 hours.
- Offer: Days will vary depending on what the team has going on. Looks at ward visits, patient and staff support and education, provides learning to takeaway.

- Length of visit: Any time, including four-week elective placement.
- Offers: A look into what infection prevention and control is and how they work.

- Length of visit: One to two days recommended.
- Offers: An overview of learning disability and what the specialist nurse does daily. Possible ward visits.

- Length of visit: One-day recommended.
- Offers: An overview of what the lung cancer nurse specialists do daily, seeing patients in clinic and getting a good understanding of lung cancer and treatment.

- Length of visit: Half day or full day visit.
- Offer: Care of adult patients (from age 18 years), day patient service procedures including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, flexi sigmoidoscopy, bronchoscopy and cystoscopy. Care of patient from providing bowel preparation to providing aftercare.

- Length of visit: One-day visit recommended. Must be a second or third year student.
- Offers: Consists of a 9 to 12 day with the team and then study time afternoon. pain management alternatives, reviews on the ward.

- Offers: Overview of the rapid response liaison team, possible ward-based assessments, better insight into mental health.

- Offers: A window into research nursing, across all specialties. Includes visits to areas such as clinics, ED and more to recruit for the clinical trials.

- Offers: An overview of the safeguarding team and what they do daily.

Induction needed before visit, cannot be completed on the same day as visit.
