About Sherwood

We are an award-winning NHS Foundation Trust providing acute and community healthcare services for 420,000 people across Mansfield, Ashfield, Newark, Sherwood and parts of Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. We employ over 5,500 people across our three hospital sites - King’s Mill, Newark and Mansfield Community.

We’re proud of our five-year strategy, Healthier Communities, Outstanding Care which launched in April 2019 and reflects how we’re moving beyond thinking like a hospital, by working with health and LA partners to focus on the wider wellbeing of communities with a shared budget.

In May 2020, King’s Mill Hospital, where 90% of our services are based, was rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission, the only Outstanding hospital in the East Midlands. Newark Hospital and Mansfield Community Hospital are both rated Good. Whilst all of our 15 services are rated Good for Safety with five Outstanding services. Our CQC assessment is based on year on year improvements in staff engagement, safety, access and finance.

Our colleagues rated us as the third best hospital Trust in the country and best in the Midlands to work and to receive care in the latest National NHS Staff Survey. Almost nine out of 10 of our colleagues said that we make patient care a top priority.

We scored above average nationally for our commitment to health and wellbeing support and colleagues were impressed with the opportunities available for flexible working. They also said that they have adequate materials, supplies and equipment to do their job, including throughout the Covid-19 pandemic (69% of colleagues).

We’re proud of what we’ve already achieved and how we’ve achieved it. We are a great place to work and have an exciting future ahead of us. We would like you to be part of it.

In 2020, we were awarded Trust of the Year in the coveted HSJ (Health Service Journal) awards.
