Celebrating our Leap Day babies and a patient's 100th birthday

Not only have we welcomed the arrival of several Leap Day babies today, but we’ve also helped a patient to celebrate their 100th birthday.

Baby Ivy was the first Leap Day baby born at Sherwood Forest Hospitals in 2024, arriving just a few minutes after midnight, weighing 7lb 15oz.

Mum Beckie said she was exhausted but over the moon, while Dad Dan said he was tired and emotional but very happy with the family’s new addition.

Ivy’s due date was 16 March so the family hadn’t considered that she might be born on 29th February.

Dan said: “During labour I was watching the clock waiting for it to tick over to midnight hoping she’d be born on the 29th so it was an extra special day for a special baby.

“It’s not confirmed yet but we think we’ll probably celebrate her birthday on 28th February every year, with an extra special celebration every four years.”

Meanwhile, colleagues on Ward 11 at King’s Mill Hospital helped patient Eveline Billingham celebrate her 100th birthday.

Eveline’s family joined Trust colleagues, including Ward Sister Rachael McLean and Ward Housekeeper Jo Greaves, to mark the occasion with a birthday card and cake that were kindly provided by volunteers in the Community Hub.

Congratulations to the families of all our Leap Day babies and a very happy birthday to Eveline!
