Become a volunteer
Being a volunteer at one of hospitals gives you the opportunity to support our patients, their families and the staff who care for them.
There are many benefits to being a volunteer at Sherwood Forest Hospitals including:
- gaining knowledge
- extending your social networks
- developing personal and social skills
- making new friends
- putting something back into the community
- increasing your confidence
- learning new skills
- experience working in a hospital environment
- increasing your employment opportunities
- increasing your health and well being.
Volunteering at our hospitals should not be viewed as a work or education placement. If you are a student looking to develop your skills within a particular area of healthcare this will not be possible.
For more information about placements, please visit our work experience page.
Apply to be a volunteer
If you would like to volunteer at one of our hospitals, please contact the Voluntary Services team who will send you an application form by emailing sfh-tr.voluntary.services@nhs.net.
You will be contacted to discuss your application and may be asked to meet a volunteer co-ordinator.
All volunteers must attend an induction before they can start work. You will be joined by other new volunteers and the session will last approximately two hours. At the induction you will hear more about the role and responsibilities of a volunteer, including infection prevention and control and fire and security procedures.
A member of the Voluntary Services team will inform you of your first day and will meet you on arrival to introduce you to your colleagues.
