We are here to help you

For people with common mental health problems, there are local talking therapy services available, you can self-refer or be referred by a health professional.

Talking Therapies, which includes counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy is evidence based to improve symptoms of mild/moderate mood disorders. Your midwife or GP can refer you, however, you can self-refer via The Notts Talking Therapy website as listed in resources below. Please note, women/birthing people who are pregnant or have recently had a baby will be prioritised.

At Sherwood Forest Hospitals, we have a small team of perinatal mental health midwives whose aim is to provide personalised support plans for women and their families who are experiencing mental illness/distress. Our perinatal mental health midwives provide a specialist service whereby they are a point of contact for those women requiring extra support, they are a liaison between maternity and specialist perinatal mental health services, and they provide knowledge and resources for both staff and women and their families.

Some women/birthing people may be offered a referral to the Nottinghamshire Perinatal Mental Health Team who offer psychiatric and psychological interventions to birthing people in Nottinghamshire. This also includes the Nottinghamshire Perinatal Trauma & Bereavement service.

If you do not have a Nottinghamshire GP, there are services available in your area. Please speak to your GP or Community Midwife to find out more.

Our midwives and doctors, and the perinatal mental health team work very closely together, with the aim to provide effective, holistic, compassionate, and safe care for you and your baby.
