Managing your loans

Items from stock can be borrowed for up to 6 weeks and will automatically renew a further 5 times as long as no one else has requested it. We also have a Health Promotion Collection containing a wealth of material for all age groups and abilities, patients, parents and carers.

When you register with the library we send you a Reader number  & PIN which allows you to renew your books online via the library catalogue.

Items can also be borrowed, renewed or returned to the library at KMH using the self-service kiosk. You will need a membership barcode to borrow items using the kiosk - ask at the Library Counter.

Overdue Items and Fines

We no longer charge fines on overdue items. Items will automatically renew 5 times but after this you will need to bring the item into the library to have it returned and re-issued.

We will send you an email reminder at this point to make you aware of the need to come in. If you ignore the reminder we will send a final reminder letter which will include the costs of replacing the items, the outstanding fines and a £5.00 administration charge.

Photocopying Items from Stock

Access to self-service photocopier is provided at King's Mill Hospital Library using your swipe access card. Costs are displayed near the photocopier.

Alternatively if you cannot visit the library we can provide you with a photocopy of a journal article or a small selection from a textbook.

Document Supply and Inter-library Loans - Items not in Stock

Items not in stock can be sourced through a network of regional and national libraries. We may make a charge for this service, but wherever possible will try to obtain items for free. If a charge is to be incurred, we will check that you wish to proceed before ordering, and if necessary a cross-charge can be made to your department.

Please ensure you have checked that the item is not available as part of our collections by searching NHS Library and Knowledge Hub. You can then request items by completing the online form.
