Clinical Microbiology

The Department of Clinical Microbiology processes approximately 350,000 specimens a year and provides comprehensive diagnosis, management and control of microbial disease for the North Nottinghamshire Health Community. The department processes a range of patient specimens for bacterial, fungal, serological and molecular investigations. Clinical advice and laboratory diagnostic facilities are available on a 24 hour basis.

The department is accredited by United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

Department Opening Hours

Laboratory Routine Working Hours:

Monday to Sunday: 07:00 am to 21:00 pm

On-call Service (Urgent specimens):

Monday to Sunday: 21:00pm to 07:00 am

 On-Call Service (Clinical Advice):

Monday to Friday: 21:00pm to 07:00 am

All samples identified as urgent MUST arrive in the laboratory within 20 minutes of the request for urgent processing being made unless the sample is from a patient at Newark Hospital.
